Terms
Last updated 2026-10-04.
These terms cover your use of Deck Material Takeoff Estimator, free or paid. The short version: it is an estimating aid, it is provided as is with no warranties, and our liability to you is limited. The sections on warranty, liability and estimates below say how, so read them before you rely on an estimate.
The terms are between you and Four Eyes Media LLC. In them, we and us mean Four Eyes Media LLC, and you means the person using the tool or buying a license key. By using the tool or buying a license key, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the tool.
Questions about any of this go to hello@fieldgrade.app.
Who you are dealing with
Deck Material Takeoff Estimator is made, licensed and supported by Four Eyes Media LLC. Our contact details are at the end of these terms.
Sales go through Lemon Squeezy, the merchant of record. That makes Lemon Squeezy the seller for payment and tax purposes: you pay them, they charge any sales tax, VAT or GST and pay it to the tax authorities, and their name is on your receipt and may be the name on your card or bank statement.
We stay responsible for the tool, your license key, support and refund decisions. Lemon Squeezy's own terms and privacy policy apply to the checkout and the payment. The privacy page says what they collect and what we keep.
What the tool does
Deck Material Takeoff Estimator takes the specs of a rectangular deck: length along the house, width out from the house, height above grade, ledger-attached or freestanding, joist spacing, joist size, decking type (pressure-treated, cedar or composite), board length, board direction, deck screws or hidden clips, post size, post spacing, beam type and footing depth, plus a waste factor that you set as a percentage. Stairs (one straight run) and railing are optional. It gives back a material takeoff and a cost estimate.
It counts decking boards, joists, rim joist, ledger, beam, posts, post bases, footing concrete, joist hangers and fasteners, plus stair and railing materials when you add them. Blocking, closer joists, flashing and joist tape are not costed. The fastener lines are flagged as assumptions in the tool. You set the waste factor and edit the price book. Notices flag a beam, joist span, board direction or railing to check. They are estimating notes, not engineering or code advice, and the tool does not check everything: a deck that draws no notice has not been shown to be safe or to meet code. Where the tool picks a size for you, such as the beam or the posts, it does that to count and price the job, not to design the deck.
The tool works in metric and imperial. The default follows the region in your browser's language settings, and a visible toggle switches between the two. A tape reading helper takes feet and inches, or meters and centimeters, and fills in the dimension fields. Check which units are selected before you enter dimensions.
It runs in a web browser on a phone, tablet or computer. There is nothing to install and no account to create.
The free version shows the takeoff list with quantities before and after waste, the cost estimate from the price book, the unit toggle and one saved project. The PDF takeoff and bid sheet, the share link and more saved projects are part of Pro.
What you buy
Pro costs $39, paid once. There is no subscription and no renewal charge.
Lemon Squeezy works out any sales tax, VAT or GST for where you are, and the checkout shows the full total before you pay.
We email your license key to your checkout address right after checkout, and Lemon Squeezy emails your receipt. You do not need an account. If the key has not arrived within an hour, check your spam folder, then write to hello@fieldgrade.app.
With the key, you get Pro. The split between the free version and Pro is set out in two places:
- The section of these terms headed 'What the tool does'.
- The home page of Deck Material Takeoff Estimator.
License
You are buying a license to use Pro, not the tool itself. We keep all rights in the tool that these terms do not give you. The same rules cover the free version.
Your license key gives you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Pro for your own personal or business work. That includes using the results in estimates and bids for your own customers. The estimates, bid sheets and share links you make are yours.
One key is for one person. A business needs one key for each person who uses Pro. How long the key lasts, and how many devices or browsers you can activate it on, is set out below under 'How long the license lasts'.
Pro checks your key with our server when you enter it and again from time to time, so it needs an internet connection now and then. If the app has not been able to confirm your key for 30 days, Pro features pause until the next successful check.
The license does not allow:
- Selling, sharing, publishing or giving away your license key.
- Reselling or redistributing the tool, or access to it.
- Copying the tool, or trying to get around the license check, except where the law gives you a right to do so that these terms cannot take away.
How long the license lasts
Your license key is valid for 1 year from the date of purchase. In that year you can activate it on up to 5 devices or browsers of your own. You pay once: there is no subscription, and nothing renews or charges again automatically. When the year ends, the key stops validating.
We do not promise to run Deck Material Takeoff Estimator forever. We may update it, and if we decide to retire the tool or Pro, we will post a notice on this site at least 30 days before, where we reasonably can.
A refund ends the license, and the key stops validating.
We may also stop validating a key that is resold, shared publicly or used in breach of these terms. If we do, we will email your checkout address and say why.
Refunds
You can get a full refund within 30 days of purchase, no questions asked. You do not need to give a reason.
To ask, email hello@fieldgrade.app within 30 days of purchase. The refund policy, linked at the bottom of every page, has the steps.
The money goes back through Lemon Squeezy to your original payment method. After a refund, the license ends and the key stops validating.
If the law where you live gives you a cooling-off period for online purchases, such as 14 days in the EU and the UK, this refund covers it. It does not replace any other rights the law gives you.
Your projects stay on your device
Saved projects, price edits and your unit choice are stored only in your browser. We have no copy and cannot restore them.
Clearing browser data, private browsing, or moving to another browser or device can remove them or leave them behind. Keep your own copy of anything you need.
No warranty beyond the refund
Deck Material Takeoff Estimator is provided as is and as available. We do not promise that it is free of errors, that it will be available at all times, or that its estimates will match the materials you use or the costs you pay.
If the tool does not work for you, your remedy is the 30-day refund. To the extent the law allows, we make no other warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, of fitness for a particular purpose or of non-infringement.
If you are a consumer, the law where you live may give you rights about faulty or misdescribed digital products that cannot be excluded. These terms do not take those rights away.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses from using Deck Material Takeoff Estimator or relying on its estimates. That includes lost profit, lost bids or contracts, material shortfalls or overruns, delays, rework, penalties, and lost saved projects or other data.
To the extent the law allows, our total liability for all claims about Deck Material Takeoff Estimator is limited to the amount you paid for it or 50 US dollars, whichever is more.
If you use Deck Material Takeoff Estimator for business, your customers deal with you, not with us. You are responsible for the estimates and bids you give them, and you agree to cover any claim one of your customers brings against us over your estimates, bids or work.
If the law where you live does not allow it, nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot legally be limited. That is the case in the EU and the UK, for example.
Some places do not allow some of these limits, so they may not fully apply to you. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the law that cannot be waived.
Estimates, not engineering
Deck Material Takeoff Estimator is an estimating aid. It turns the measurements, choices and prices you enter into an estimate of deck materials and cost. It is not engineering, structural, legal or code-compliance advice, and it is not a design or a plan for what you build.
Results depend on your inputs. A wrong measurement, the wrong unit or an out-of-date price carries straight through to the estimate, so check the numbers before you order materials or send a bid.
Where the tool picks or suggests a size, a spacing or a quantity, or shows a note about something to check, it does that to produce a count and a price. It does not check that what you build is safe or meets code, and the absence of a note does not mean that it is.
Any prices the tool starts you with are estimates, not quotes or offers. Your supplier's prices will differ, so enter and check your own.
Before you build, you are responsible for checking local codes, permits, property lines, buried utilities and site conditions. Talk to your local building department or a licensed engineer before you start, and follow their advice where it differs from the estimate.
Something that is built wrong can fail and hurt people. The estimate is a starting point for your own judgment on the job, not a replacement for it.
Governing law and disputes
The laws of the State of Delaware, USA, leaving out its conflict of laws rules, govern these terms and any dispute about Deck Material Takeoff Estimator. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
If you are a consumer, you also keep any protection that the law of the place where you live gives you and that cannot be taken away by contract.
If something goes wrong, write to hello@fieldgrade.app first. A refund or a fix usually settles it faster than a court.
If a dispute does go to court, it goes to the state or federal courts located in the State of Delaware, USA, and you and we accept those courts. There are two exceptions: either of us may use a small claims court where you live, and if the consumer law where you live gives you the right to bring or defend a claim at home, you keep that right.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows the current version. A change applies from that date, to use of the tool and to purchases made after it.
A change never takes away the 30-day refund on a purchase already made.
Other terms
You must be 18 or older, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher, to buy a license key.
You cannot transfer your license to someone else. We may transfer these terms to a company that takes over Deck Material Takeoff Estimator, and your license carries over.
If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
These terms, the refund policy and the privacy page are the whole agreement between you and us about Deck Material Takeoff Estimator.
Store, brand and product names that appear in the tool belong to their owners. We are not affiliated with them, and showing a name is not an endorsement.
